History
The club was established on 14th February 1962, when a notice was put up in a Post Office window in Rhiwbina by Jack Treeby. Jack asked for interested people to a meeting and following this meeting the club was formed.
The Squirrel name and logo came about as a result of the newly formed club meeting in the Butchers Arms and seeing beer pump from a local brewery with a Squirrel on it...the rest is history.
Rhiwbina Rugby was awarded full Welsh Rugby Union status in 1975, and interestingly our nominator's included Pontypridd and Penarth Rugby clubs. That year included a memorable loss to giants Newport RFC in the cup
From these humble beginnings it took a few seasons for the club to find its feet on the rugby field but Rhiwbina Rugby has long since established itself as one of Cardiff's best junior clubs. The rugby club base itself at Rhiwbina Recreation Club encouraging people with an interest in rugby to join the club. Rhiwbina currently field three Senior teams, a Veterans side and after over a decade we have a Youth side.
The combined playing membership of the Seniors and Juniors
makes us officially the biggest side in Wales.
At present Rhiwbina RFC is based at Rhiwbina Recreation Club but is looking to develop its own club house.
