Llandaff (Sun 25th Oct 2009 - Away)
Match 1. Rhiwbina 2 v Llandaff 5;
Team ;Charlie; Jack; Leighton; George; Isaac; Daniel Cosslett; Joshua S: Tom
In very Autumnal condition’s with Wind and rain vying for airtime Llandaff got the game underway and after some indifferent tagging they very quickly gained the ascendancy and scored the opening try. 1-0 Llandaff.
Despite a good set of passing through George, Tom and Charlie, Llandaff turned over with six good tags and moved the ball out of two tags to gain another touch down .2-0 Llandaff.
With the restart Daniel Cosslett made a break only to hit the deck and injure himself to be replaced by Liam. Some good passing but again Rhiwbina halted by good tagging from Llandaff.
Better tagging from Rhiwbina created some pressure on Llandaff and they knocked on to turnover the ball. Jack passed out to Charlie who showed great pace and despite being tagged got the ball to Tom who was halted by stepping into touch near the Llandaff line.
Llandaff broke away and some good tagging by George, Liam, Tom and Leighton again won the ball back for Rhiwbina. The ball was moved by Joshua S to Isaac and good tagging again forced the turnover.
Llandaff again had possession but knocked the ball on Turnover to Rhiwbina and this time the ball was moved to Charlie who sprinted through the Llandaff defence to score a good try.
Half time: 2-1 Llandaff.
Rhiwbina started the second half with everything to play for- George went on a good run and passed on to Tom and then to Joshua S and back to Tom who was tagged and the ball turned over. Llandaff attacked and some great tagging by Leighton twice, Isaac and Joshua S and then completed by George and Tom won the ball back for Rhiwbina.
A great break by Charlie and pass on to George was thwarted by a dubious foot in touch decision.
Llandaff broke out of defence and again great tagging from Leighton and Isaac but Llandaff managed to get the ball away and scored another good try. 3-1 Llandaff.
Rhiwbina broke away with a good run by George, Tom took the pass and fed back to George who crossed in the corner and the fight back was on. 3-2 Llandaff.
Llandaff broke away from the restart and despite some good tagging there was some indifferent efforts and Llandaff crossed for their 4th try. 4-2 Llandaff.
With time running out Rhiwbina had a good set of tagging to turnover the ball and again Tom ran into touch with the line nearly in reach. Turnover and Llandaff sealed the victory with a good break half the length of the field to clinch the result.
Llandaff 5 v Rhiwbina 2
Match 2 Rhiwbina 6 v Llandaff 6
Team; Harry; Joseph; Joel; Liam; Samuel Webber; Adam; Aled; Daniel Collier.
With this team playing together with the Cheltenham Tournament in mind it was important to avenge the first match loss.
Llandaff made a great start despite some excellent tagging by Joseph and scored an opening try in the corner. 1-0 Llandaff.
With Rhiwbina on the attack, Llandaff had some terrific tagging to stop first Adam and then Samuel W in full flight. The ball was then moved quickly to Joel who made a great break for the line to score the equalising try. 1-1
With Llandaff attacking it saw some good tagging from\Joel, Adam and Liam resulting in a turnover and the ball being moved to Joseph who showed his elusive running skills and pace to score a great try.
Rhiwbina 2, Llandaff 1
Llandaff came back and some great tagging again saw a knock on and a turnover, the ball arrived with Samuel W who showed great running skills and speed to score a great solo try. Rhiwbina 3 v Llandaff 1
Llandaff Again attacked with great purpose and despite some good tagging from Harry and Aled and then by Daniel Collier, Llandaff brought the game back with their second try. 3-2 Rhiwbina.
Rhiwbina attacked again but a dropped pass saw a turnover and Llandaff broke away for another try to tie the scores at 3-3.
From the restart the ball was shifted to Joseph who again showed his speed to take Rhiwbina into the lead again 4-3.
2nd Half
Llandaff attack straight from the restart and some great tagging from Daniel Collier then Joel and Joseph, Llandaff succeeded in levelling things up 4-4.
Back came Rhiwbina and Joseph nearly scored again but was caught just short of the line. The ball was moved to Harry and as he delivered a certain scoring pass to Adam the referee was in the way and Rhiwbina were stopped short. (Should we Take Alex Ferguson’s lead and question this official’s fitness????)
Not to be beaten by the ref the ball was moved wide to Joseph who claimed his third and Rhiwbina’s 5th. Score 5-4 Rhiwbina.
Llandaff again came back and some poor tagging saw the game again go all level as they broke for a good equalising score 5-5.
Rhiwbina were next to charge for a winning score and after a good break by Harry we were turned over and only some brilliant tagging by Joseph with 4 consecutive tags and supported by Daniel Collier and Adam stopped Llandaff breaking away.
A great turnover saw the ball reach Adam who beat the Llandaff defence to put Rhiwbina in front again 6-5.
With the clock ticking to the end Llandaff gained possession and a great solo try saw the scores all level at 6-6.
With time running out Joseph made another break and with further tags by Llandaff the Ref blew the whistle to end a tremendous encounter 6 -6. well done to both teams.
Llandaff 6 v Rhiwbina 6.
Match 3 Rhiwbina 5 v Llandaff 2
This match saw the same team as match 1 for Rhiwbina for the first half with the second half being the team from Game 2.
Rhiwbina kicked off and some good running and passing was stopped by some good tagging from Llandaff.
Llandaff gained possession and some good pressure and tagging saw the ball turned over after a dropped pass.
Rhiwbina attacked and a good run from George and pass on to Charlie saw some great pace before he passed to Tom who opened the scoring with a try in the corner.
Rhiwbina 1- 0
Llandaff and Rhiwbina were then both guilty of careless passing and with a number of dropped passes the ball was taken on by Llandaff who scored their opening try.
1-1.
Rhiwbina then had a good run with Jack, and Isaac both making good ground. Daniel Cosslett then made a half break and moved to Joshua S who gave the pass to Tom who made ground before being tagged close to the line.
Back came Llandaff but some good tagging saw the ball Turned over and Rhiwbina broke away and with Charlie again making ground passed on to Tom who went past a couple of Tags to score his second try.
Halftime: Rhiwbina 2 v Llandaff 1
Llandaff were off from the kick-off and only some quality tagging from Daniel Collier, Joseph and Aled stopped them from scoring. From the turnover the Rhiwbina switched the direction of attack and found Liam who showed great pace to score in the corner.
3-1 Rhiwbina.
Some good play by both sides saw the result of 2 sets of 6 tagging giving turnover’s to both sides with Adam, Harry Daniel Collier and Aled prominent for Rhiwbina.
It was Llandaff who emerged with the next try after another solo effort which brought the score back to 3-2.
Rhiwbina then attacked and a good break by Joseph saw a good pass to Aled who showed a great change of pace to score a very good Rhiwbina try. 4-2
With Llandaff looking to get back into the game some good tagging from Harry, Adam and Joel kept them out and from the resulting Turnover it was Joseph who ran away to put Rhiwbina in an unassailable lead 5-2. The ref brought an end to proceedings with the days spoils being shared with a good Llandaff outfit.

Penarth (Sun 11th Oct 2009 - Home)
Match 1: Rhiwbina 4 Penarth 3
In very wet conditions for players and supporters alike the first match got off to a fast start with both teams beating the condition’s with a try a piece, Rhiwbina scoring with some good passing and Seb going over in the corner.
With Penarth making a good break from the restart Rhiwbina were on the back foot and some good tagging from Tom, Seb and Sam P kept them initially at bay but a good break after a turnover saw Penarth take the lead 2-1.
Back came Rhiwbina and after some good tagging by Leighton and Sam P they managed to turn-over the ball and a good break by Zach saw Seb again breaking through to score his second try. Penarth attacked again and some good tagging broke up the Penarth attack and a break by Sam W was only stopped by a foot in touch.
2-2
In the second half the ball switched from side to side with good tagging on both sides. Then an excellent tag by Leighton resulted in a t/over and Sam P made a great break to put Tom who was supporting well in for a try in the corner.
3-2 to Rhiwbina.
With the weather continuing to make handling difficult we saw turnovers against both sides. Then another break after some good handling saw Seb break through and pass to Tom in support again for the fourth try to Rhiwbina. 4-2
Penarth were still fighting hard and despite more good tagging they broke through to make the score 4-3 and setting up an exciting last minute.
Rhiwbina nearly scored right at the end after a great break by Sam W was passed on to Sam P who passed to Tom who put his foot in touch. Penarth ran the ball from the turnover but knocked on and the Ref blew the final whistle.
Well done boys –a good win. 4-3
Match 2: Rhiwbina 7 Penarth 0
With the rain stopping for a short interlude the 2nd game kicked off and immediately Penarth turned the ball over and Joseph sliced through the Penarth defence to score an excellent 1st try, 1-0 Rhiwbina.
Penarth attacked and some particularly good tagging from Lloyd and supported well by George gained a turnover and after a good break from Harry the ball again found Joseph who again was too quick and carved through the Penarth defence for a good try.
2-0 Rhiwbina.
Every time Penarth had the ball they were being put under tremendous pressure with great tagging, this time by Dan Collier led to a knock on and the ball found Charlie who showed great pace and a sidestep to get the third try. 3-0 Rhiwbina
Rhiwbina again pressurised the Penarth team with outstanding tagging by Joseph, George, Owen and Lloyd who was up particularly fast and he gained his just reward as he found space and claimed the 4th try. 4-0 Rhiwbina. At Half Time.
2nd Half
The pattern of the 2nd half was much the same as the first with tagging from Harry and Lloyd again resulting in a turnover and Harry made a good break and passed on to Adam who sprinted well to score the 5th try. Rhiwbina 5 v Penarth 0.
Penarth never gave up and continued to try and score themselves which in such difficult conditions was a credit to them. It was certainly the defensive efforts that was the difference and after more pressure, Adam made another great break to sprint in for his second and Rhiwbina’s 6th try 6-0 Rhiwbina.
The game reached its conclusion with more great tagging and a turnover which then saw some good passing before Owen saw his chance and raced away for the 7th and concluding try.
An excellent defensive and offensive performance, well done boys.
Match 3: Rhiwbina 7 Penarth 3
With the wet weather continuing to make life difficult as now the boys were both wet and cold the third match got under way.
Some good defence by Rhiwbina saw the ball fall to Josh W who carved through the Penarth defence to open the scoring with a good try. 1-0 Rhiwbina.
Penarth then attacked looking for an equaliser and they were stopped by an excellent tag from Josh S. And a turnover. The ball was moved out and a good break by Zach was stopped only by a foot in touch.
Back came Rhiwbina and after a break by Jack the ball was moved to Rhys who sprinted in for try number 2. Rhiwbina 2-0
After a good bit of tagging by Penarth to stop a Rhiwbina attack there was a quick turnover by Rhiwbina after a knock on the ball was passed out to Joel who ran powerfully to get try number 3. Rhiwbina 3-0.
Penarth attacked but were again stopped by some good work and first a break by Dan Cosslett and the carried on to Aled who made good ground before passing on to Josh W who again showed his pace to score in the corner. Rhiwbina 4-0
Penarth then got their efforts rewarded with a try despite some good tagging from Zach and Josh S to make the score 4-1 Rhiwbina.
Rhiwbina were spurred on by Penarth’s try and Jack passed on to Joel who again showed strength to score his second try and put the game safe.
With the clock running down there was more to come and after some good play and passing the ball reached Dan Cosslett who raced past a tired defence to make the score
Rhiwbina 6 Penarth 1
From the restart Penarth made a great break and after 2 good passes scored their second try. 6-2.
With Barely a minute left Jack managed a good tag and from the turnover the ball was moved from Aled to Zach and onto Josh W who again ran away to score 7-2.
Penarth showed a never say die attitude and broke away again to score another and the final score Rhiwbina 7 Penarth 3
In atrocious conditions there was some great play by all the boys WELL DONE!!!!!

1st Match: Cowbridge 4 Rhiwbina 6

A great attacking start by Cowbridge but equally strong tagging by Rhiwbina saw a Turnover for both sides before
Cowbridge crossed for a good opening try, 1-0 Cowbridge... Rhiwbina with some good passing the
ball eventually reaching Daniel Collier who passed onto Seb who got the Equalising try in the corner. 1-1.
In what was developing into an excellent game the quality of tagging was particularly good and some great tags
from Joshua W, Liam and Joel prevented further scores from Cowbridge. With such good defence
Rhiwbina were soon back on the attack and a good pass from Joshua W put Samuel W away for an excellent try. 2-1
Rhiwbina. Such was the commitment to tagging both Liam and Joshua W were hurt and left the
field at halftime to be replaced by Harry and Adam.
2nd Half
Great start to the second half with some good passing getting the ball to Seb who sprinted half the length of the
field for a great try 3-1 Rhiwbina.
The 2 injured boys returned to the fray and Rhiwbina nearly scored again when some great tagging by Cowbridge
stopped Harry scoring in the corner. Some good tagging again and Rhiwbina regained the ball, a
great run by Adam saw the ball reach Liam who again sprinted clear to take Rhiwbina into a 4-1 lead.
Cowbridge were still very much in the game and they quickly responded with a very good try of their own to make the score 4-2.
Despite some good tagging the ball was moved well and Cowbridge were back in the match with another good try 4-3.
With the pressure on, the boys rose to the occasion and some good passing saw the ball reach Liam who ran in a
great try from a long way out. 5-3 Rhiwbina.
With time running out back came Cowbridge and scored another good try to make the score 5-4.
The referee looked at his watch and Rhiwbina moved the ball from Isaac to Charlie to Rhys who passed on to
George who made a great run beating 5 players and a body check to score and make it an excellent
result 6-4 to Rhiwbina.
2nd Match: Cowbridge 5 Rhiwbina 3
Daniel Cosslett, Joshua Stanbury, Leighton Donavon, Jack Cosgrove, Harry Johnson, Adam Pike (1), Tom
Whittingham (2), Aled Grant, Samuel Pell, Tom Gibson, Owen Pearce;
Cowbridge start off at a great pace and only some good tagging from Adam and Joshua S stopped an early try.
Rhiwbina had a turnover and a great run by Aled almost brought our first try. However from the
turnover ball Cowbridge made a great break and went the length of the field for the first try 1-0 Cowbridge.
We then saw some good passing and a break by Adam and pass to Leighton who was stopped as we were driven
into touch. Cowbridge had regained possession and broke away again to make the score 2-0 to Cowbridge.
With the confidence a little low we put together some good passing only to lose the ball and Cowbridge again
broke away to score. 3-0 Cowbridge.
The boys really needed to score and after some good tagging by Jack, Tom G and Daniel Cosslett the boys
regained the ball and after some good passing from Joshua S and Samuel P, Adam was able to break
through for a good try. 3-1 Cowbridge.
With the boys beginning to get back into the game Cowbridge picked up a loose ball against the run of play and
ran away to score again to make the score 4-1 Cowbridge.
2nd Half
The second half started with the boys still believing they could win and a good set of passing saw Leighton nearly
scoring in the corner.
Cowbridge then break away and only an excellent tag by Samuel P saved another try. Back came Rhiwbina and a
break first by Joel then a pass from Owen put Leighton away only to be tagged before he could score.
Cowbridge regained the ball and despite some great efforts at tagging they scored another try to make the score 5-1.
Nobody was giving up and back came Rhiwbina and a great break from Adam saw the ball move across the line to
Tom W who got into score in the corner. 5-2 Cowbridge.
The Rhiwbina team was really trying hard with some good tagging, Harry then made a great break and he passed
on to Leighton who got the ball to Seb who threw a great pass to Tom W to score another try in the
corner. 5-3 Cowbridge.
The Ref then blew for full time and whilst the match was lost there was some great effort shown right to the end.

Caerphilly Tournament (Sun 13th Sept 2009)
Game 1: Rhiwbina 1 Pencoed 3
(Joseph 1)
A strong start from Pencoed results in them scoring the first try of the game (0-1). Rhiwbina reply with good runs and passing from Joseph and then Seb. A good individual run from George is stopped just before the line. Good defending by Owen and Isaac but they couldn’t stop Pencoed from scoring a second try (0-2).
Pencoed start the second half strongly and Rhiwbina produce some good tags to prevent Pencoed from scoring another try. A great run from Joseph results in a try in the corner for Rhiwbina (1-2). Another good restart for Pencoed gives them a third try (1-3). Rhiwbina kept trying hard and George makes a great run but is eventually tagged just in front of the try line (1-3).
Game 2: Rhiwbina 6 Pontyclun 4
(Joseph 2, Liam 2, Seb 1, George 1)
Good start from Rhiwbina with Seb passing to Joseph who goes on to score the first try (1-0). Great running and passing from Daniel Cosslett allows George to make a run and good passing from Liam and Owen results in Joseph scoring his second try (2-0). A strong restart from Pontyclun but good tagging and defending from Josh W, Daniel Cosslett and Charlie prevents them from scoring. Liam has a great run and goes on to score Rhiwbina’s third try of the game (3-0). Pontyclun restart and claw back a try (3-1).
After half time Pontyclun regroup and score a second try (3-2) but Rhiwbina fight back with a good try from Seb (4-2). Rhiwbina try to defend their lead with good tags from Owen, Josh S and Rhys but Pontyclun manage to score again (4-3). Excellent runs from Josh W and Liam who then goes on to score his second try (5-3). Again Pontyclun reply with a try of their own (5-4). George scores a great try during the last few minutes to end the game (6-4).
Game 3: Caerphilly 0 Rhiwbina 2
(George 1, Joseph 1)
Caerphilly starts the match but after good tagging from Rhiwbina they win the ball. A great run from Joseph leads to George scoring the first try (0-1). Again good tagging from Charlie and Rhys prevents Caerphilly from scoring. Josh W makes a great run before being tagged by Caerphilly.
Rhiwbina start the second half well with a good try from Joseph (0-2). Caerphilly restart and after great tagging from Zach and Josh W, Rhiwbina regain the ball. Leighton, Seb and Liam all make great runs and Rhiwbina defend their lead well until the final whistle (0-2).
Game 4: Rhiwbina 5 Newbridge 3
(Joseph 2, George 2, Leighton 1)
Newbridge start the game and despite good tagging from Isaac and Daniel Collier, they take the lead (0-1). Rhiwbina respond with a fast run from Joseph ending in a try (1-1). Newbridge restart strongly resulting in a second try to take the lead again (1-2). Rhiwbina put together some good runs with George scoring to level the scores (2-2). Newbridge respond to this with another try (2-3). A good run from Joseph who finds space in the corner for Rhiwbina’s third try (3-3).
The second half starts with good passes from Zach and Daniel Collier enabling Leighton to put Rhiwbina in the lead at (4-3). Rhiwbina defend strongly with good tagging from Josh S and Charlie. A good run and pass by Seb allowing George to score his second try (5-3).

Penallta (Sun 6th Sept 2009)
The first game of the new season was played away at Ystrad Mynach in perfect weather conditions. The boys were all keen to get their first match underway and set off with enthusiasm from the off.
Match 1: Penalta 4 Rhiwbina 7
Joel Rice (1), Joseph McCarthy (3), Owen Pearce (2), Aled Grant, Tom Gibson, Daniel Collier, Lloyd Franklin (1), Adam Pike.
Rhiwbina make a fast start from the kick off with Joseph, Joel and Tom passing well, leading to a try for Joseph to start the scoring. (0-1) The boys make five good tags from Penalta’s restart but were unable to prevent them levelling the scores with a try of their own (1-1).
Rhiwbina responded immediately after good passes from Lloyd and Daniel Collier which led to Joel scoring our second try (1-2). Penalta restarted and the boys made the full six tags in defence and regained the ball. With possession back to Rhiwbina, Owen is able to run for the line and score our third try (1-3).
The ball is run into touch by Penalta after the restart but with the ball back in hand, several good runs forward allowed Joseph to put the ball down for another try (1-4). Penalta restart and they score quickly from a great individual run through our defence (2-4).
Penalta restart the second half and make a good push forward and despite many tags by Rhiwbina, Penalta score a good try in the corner to bring the scores closer (3-4). Rhiwbina restart and Joel makes a good run and passes to Owen in support, who scores his second try (3-5).
Rhiwbina win turnover ball from the restart and after several good passes by the boys, Lloyd scores a great try (3-6). Penalta fight back immediately and score quickly (4-6). A good run from Joel followed. The ball was lost to Penalta but regained after good tags from Owen and Lloyd. Adam makes a good run forward and a pass to Joseph allows him to score again at the end of the game (4-7).
Match 2: Penallta 5 Rhiwbina 5
Zach Rapson (1), Rhys Lewis, Daniel Cosslett (1), Leighton Donovan, Joshua Wilson (1), Tom Whittingham, Harry Johnson, Sam Webber (1), Isaac Phelps, Joseph McCarthy (1-sub).
From the whistle, the boys pass the ball out to Sam who makes a fast run to the line and scores the opening try for Rhiwbina (0-1). Penalta push forward from the restart but despite an excellent tag from Harry, they score a try and return the scores to level (1-1).
Isaac makes an excellent long run forward after the restart but was accidentally brought down near the line. After some excellent tagging from Rhiwbina, Joshua Wilson runs for a great try to regain the lead (1-2). Penalta then responded with a very fast try to again draw level (2-2).
Harry creates a good run forward after the restart and passes to Daniel Cosslett who scores for Rhiwbina (2-3). Zach and Leighton make some good tags in defence but Penalta score again to end the first half level (3-3).
Good tagging pressure from Rhiwbina force a forward pass from Penalta and Joseph runs and scores a try for Rhiwbina (3-4). However Penalta complete another great try from a fast individual run. (4-4).
Harry and Leighton pass the ball well and push forward. The boys run out of room and after stepping into touch and losing the ball, Penalta seize the opportunity and make a long run to the try line and take the lead (4-5).
Zach receives the ball after the restart and scores an equalising try for Rhiwbina (5-5). Rhiwbina defend very well with all six tags and make a persistent attack pushing for the final try. Unfortunately Penalta defended well and Tom only just missed a score after a great attempt.
The second game ended all square, ending a great opening day and a good overall winning result against a good opposition. Well done boys!
