St Josephs (Sun 7th March 2010 - Away)
Game 1: St Josephs 7 Rhiwbina 49
Tries James F (2), Sam, Dylan, James C, Tom L
All successfully converted by Tom L
It has been a couple of years since we played St Josephs so we were not sure what to expect. But as always our boys played their best with some great runs especially from Dylan and Jack Williams and some great tries were scored.
Game 2: St Josephs 7 Rhiwbina 28
Tries Jack W (2) and Mikey (2)
All Successfully converted by Dylan
After a great first game it was decided to play another 10 minute each way game. The boys were really up for this especially Mikey who scored two great tries from two great runs.
Once again well done to all the boys who played great rugby today and thank you to St Josephs for two good games.
Pentyrch 5 Rhiwbina 0 (Sun 28th Feb 2009 - Away)
Today we headed off to Pentyrch knowing we would have a good game ahead of us. What we did not know was that we were going to be playing 15 a side on a full sized pitch which was something new to the majority of our players but not so new to the Pentrych team.
It was a very close game, and all the boys stepped up to the challenge that was set to them.
Thank you to all our parents for their great support as always and to Pentrych for a great game and hospitality.
St Peters (Sun 21st Feb 2010 - Home)
Game 1: Rhiwbina 7 St Peters 0
Game 2: Rhiwbina 0 St Peters 14
Game 3: Rhiwbina 0 St Peters 14
We knew today we were going to have some tough games ahead of us. The last time we met with St Peters was in the Blues Cup and to our delight and their dismay we beat them, so we knew they were coming to our home game today to win.
It was decided that 3 games were going to be played.
Rhiwbina 7 St Peters 0
Try Scorer and conversion by Rhodri Beynon.
As this was going to be the most important game the coaches decided to put a strong team out. This seemed to work as we dominated the first half and with some great passing amongst the backs, created lots of opportunities eventually leading to a great try from Rhodri who successfully converted to put points on the board. This carried on during the second half with great driving from the fowards and our defense not allowing St Peters to score.
The next two games were well contested with both sides attacking and defending well. Unfortunately for us it was St Peters who put the points on the board.
Well done to both teams who played great games of rugby especially under the wet muddy conditions and thanks again to Dai Hobbs who as always refereed these games fairly.
Llandaff North 0 Rhiwbina 52 (Sun 13th Dec 2009 - Away)
Tries: Rhodri (3), Sion, Sam V, Sam W, Sam H and Dylan.
Con: Rhodri successfully converted 6 kicks.

St Peters 14 Rhiwbina 21 (Blues Cup R1) Sun 22nd Nov 2009 - Away
Try scorers Sion (2) Dylan 1 and Rhodri converted all 3.
"The coaches told us that we had to start off on the whistle. In the first couple of minutes an "ok" try was scored by Raff from St Peters. After that try Rhiwbina put in everything by doing great rucking and mauling but sadly the same person scored another ok try! We were then desperate to score so all the forwards got around the pitch to get to the rucks to win the ball.
After all that effort Dylan did a big run down the pitch, got tackled, popped the ball up to Sion and Sion scored a great try. Rhodri whomped it over the posts.
Then it was half time.
After a good team talk we were back as the great team we are. Rhiwbina were down hill and in the first tackle we won the ball, kept on getting the ball and the backs worked well passing down the line for Dylan to score a fabulous try.
By now we were 2 trys each and we wanted more! Amazing defence by St Peters made us work hard for our 3rd try but we kept at it and St Peters gave away a penalty and Sion took the penalty fast and dived over the try line. We all went crazy, but the match wasnt over. Then the whistle blew for full time and we went really mad!
And didn't Will look smart in his new hat? Its our teams new lucky hat!!!!!"

Cheltenham Tournament (Sun 8th Nov 2009)
Today we had an early start and travelled to Cheltenham. For once it was when we hit England that the rain started and did not seem to stop until we returned into Wales some hours later.
Sixteen teams were entered into this tournament. The format being that there were 4 pools of 4 teams. Each team that won their pool then went onto the semi final and then the two winners of the semi finals played in the final.
One team from our pool did not turn up so we had a longer wait until our first game, but then the games were played one after the other.
After drawing the first game the boys knew they had to win the next game to have any chance of progressing to the semi finals, and although by this time they were all cold and wet they did us all proud and were the proud pool winners. The semi final was the best game of the morning with both teams putting up a great fight to get into the final but in the end it was Rhiwbina who were the stronger team.
Soon we found out that Ledbury were in the final too and as they also were in black we offered to borrow tops from Cheltenham. These unfortunately did not give us any luck and with all our boys being wet and cold we lost this game but to say that Rhiwbina were unlucky would be an understatement.
Pool 1
Rhiwbina 0 Droitwich 0
Rhiwbina 4 Malborough 0
Tries Sam W, James and Rhodri (2)
Semi Final: Rhiwbina 1 Stow 0
Try Mikey
Final: Rhiwbina 1 Ledbury 2
Tries Will or Max H (sorry not sure)
Thank you to all the parents who got up early to make the journey to Cheltenham and for braving out the weather and as always the support given to the boys. Thank you also to the men who helped with the gazebo I think we all appreciated it this morning, and a great thank you to the boys who all played amazingly and did us all proud.
A Final thank you to Cheltenham RFC for hosting a well organized tournament and we look forward to next year,

Llandaff 12 Rhiwbina 33 (Sun 1st Nov 2009 - Away)
Tries: Mikey (2), Sion and James (2).
Conversions: Sam W (2), Rhodri (2)
Today we arrived in Llandaff not sure whether the game would go ahead as the weather was certainly against us.
The coaches decided at the beginning that this match would be played in 10 minute quarters.
In the first quarter it was plain to see that our forwards were still getting used to the wet conditions as it seemed to be the backs doing all the hard work, but then Mikey managed to make a great break through and scored the first try of the game followed by a difficult kick in very difficult conditions by Sam W. Unfortunately it was not long after that Llandaff managed to get through our
defence and score their first points of the game. This is how the first quarter ended.
During their first break Geraint the coach must have said something to the boys because the forwards certainly played a different game from then on and Sion scored a great try by running the length of the pitch. Our forwards then starting to win most of the rucks and mauls and again no one could get Mikey down and with his famous extendable arm he managed to score his second try which again Sam W converted.
During the final quarters, the backs were passing the ball out just as they had practiced in training and the forwards were doing a great job helping the backs out. James Ford scored two great tries with Rhodri again making two great conversion kicks in very difficult conditions.
We would like to thank Llandaff for a great competitive game.
Cricc 42 Rhiwbina 38 (Sun 18th Oct 2009 - Away)
Tries: Tom L, Mikey (3) Rhodri (2)
Conversions: Sam W (2), Rhodri (2)
A great game of rugby was played by Rhiwbina , but unfortunately a few of our boys were not available due to illness and also we did not have the ref on our side like CRICC did. At half time our boys were winning by 10 points but unfortunately the second half went on until the CRICC boys took the lead.
A second game was played but after 15 minutes Rhiwbina called it a day.
Rhiwbina 14 CRICC 0
Tries: Max and Tom
Conversions: Sam and Rhodri.

Cowbridge 54 Rhiwbina 49 (Sun 4th Oct 2009 - Away)
Last time we met Cowbridge was in the Blues Cup and unfortunately they were the ones who knocked us out in the first round, so the coaches and players were
expecting a tough game especially as we were without our Cardiff School Boys who had played the day before.
The coaches decided to play 3 sections of the game.
The fist section Rhiwbina dominated with Mikey scoring a great try from kick off followed by two great tries
from Dylan. At this point all the parents were thinking that we could do it this time but then Cowbridge put on their Vale district Boys. Here the game turned around with Cowbridge playing some brilliant rugby and scoring some great tries. Once our boys got used to the new game being played they started to come back with Tom H and Toby scoring fantastic tries.
The final section came with Rhiwbina just being one try down the boys were now determined but Cowbridge were just as determined and managed to score two tries. After a great run our new boy Sam W scored a try and again with pure determination Mikey also scored his second try but that unfortunately was not enough as once again after a great game and great rugby played by the two teams Cowbridge were the winners. Well done to Sam W who also converted all the tries.
We would like to thank Cowbridge for a great game of rugby and look forward to playing them again.
CIACS 7 Rhiwbina 54 (Sun 27th Sept 2009 - Away)
Today we travelled to the Marl to play our first ever game against the CIACS. Four of our boys had been away with Cardiff Schools and Sam T injured so we
were not sure how the boys would do, but we did not have to worry because in the first half the boys played some great rugby and scored 42 points.
After half time two of our new players went on Samuel Wall and James Cheesman and within minutes Dylan scored another great try.
It was time for the coaches to have a chat because of the point difference we were no longer able to go on with this game.
CIACS 7 Rhiwbina 54
Tries Sam W 3, Sam H, Rhodri, Sion, Max H and James. Conversions Sam W, James C, James F, Rhodri, Sion, Alec and James
Unfortunately the CIACS did not have enough players for a second game but three of ours kindly offered to play for the CIACS Will, Toby and Mikey to
allow the second game to go on. Again some great rugby was played with our new player Sam W scoring 3 great tries and James also having the ball
and making some great runs.
We would like to say thank you to the CIACS for two good games of rugby.
Cardiff Schools 2009-10
Cardiff Schools U11's recently held their trials for the coming season.
Once again Rhiwbina have good representation with U11's Rhodri Beynon, Sion Parry, James Ford and Max Harding getting in the squad.
Caerphilly Tounament (Sun 13th Sept 2009)
Game 1: Pencoed 2 Rhiwbina 1
Game 2: Dowlais 1 Rhiwbina 5
Game 3: Caerphilly 1 Rhiwbina 4
Game 4: Newbridge 0 Rhiwbina 6
We were not sure how we were going to play today as we had not had many training sessions during the summer and today was our first game of the season.
After about an hours wait we finally had our first game against Pencoed. This was a tough game right from the start with great rugby being played by both sides.
There was a lot of competitiveness in the rucks and mauls and although the forwards worked hard they could not stop a
Pencoed player getting the ball out and scoring the first try of the game. Not to be out done Sion from Rhiwbina also managed to get the ball out and did a great run to make the scores equal. Unfortunately although
Rhiwbina played well in the second half Pencoed scored another try.
Our second game was against Dowlais. The boys were disappointed after losing the first game and were determined to score some tries. With some great passing
through the backs Sion managed to score 2 tries followed by Jack W, Dylan and Rhodri putting some points onto the score board.
Although we had been at this tournament for four hours, we had only played two games and the boys were starting to get a little restless so they were really up for
the game against Caerphilly. Alec scored the first try after a great run down the touch line, Sam T passed a great ball to Toby who then went on to score a try,
James used his strength to get through Caerphilly’s defence and Rhodri managed to dodge his way through several players to score the final try of the game.
After a short break it was time to play the last game against Newbridge. From drop out Sion managed to gain control of the game to score the first try in the first few seconds of the game giving the boys encouragement. Dylan scored two amazing tries and after all his hard work during this tournament Sam T also scored a well
deserved try and again it was Rhodri who scored the final try of the game.
Although it was a very long day for the boys, they played amazingly with some great passing in the backs, great rucking and mauling from the forwards and most
importantly great team playing. There were two definite players of the tournament today they were Sam T and Dylan. Well Done boys!!!!
We would like to say thank you to the parents for their continued support and also a Big Thank You to Caerphilly RFC for hosting this tournament.
